A billion-dollar health technology company, athenahealth provides network-enabled services for healthcare and point-of-care mobile apps.  For these systems to work, elegant and intuitive user interfaces are mission-critical.  After all, if you don’t know what to click on, you won’t use the app.

With multiple deadlines bearing down, they turned to Rustle & Spark to design a library of icons that would leverage new brand standards and apply them to a range of interface sizes for everything from desktop applications to smartphones.

This new icon library standardized visual taxonomies across multiple audiences and platforms, creating consistent experiences even as users moved between roles.  A physician in one interaction might be the patient in another, and our approach resolved long-standing frustration and confusion.

Shortly after completing this work, athenahealth was acquired for $17 billion.  Our design work had nothing to do with that – as far as you know.
